Held on the last Wednesday of each month in our Tasting Room. The Tasting Club explores the connection between taste and nature, the seasons, art, literature, music, culture and more.
The club is a collaborative event between ourselves Grapecircus Wines and Bia Botanica. We curate the event, Enrico and Michelangelo from Grapecircus carefully choose and introduce the wines and Ali from Bia Botanica creates the tasting plates to compliment the theme.
The tasting club is an intimate curated Tasting experience for 14 people. The aim of the club is to facilitate an evening of taste, pleasure and community.
Inspired by Seamus Heaney's poem "Oysters" and the Cúirt International Festival of Literature our first Tasting Club theme was:
'Of the Sea'
Our shells clacked on the plates.
My tongue was a filling estuary,
My palate hung with starlight:
As I tasted the salty Pleiades
Orion dipped his foot into the water.
Alive and violated,
They lay on their beds of ice:
Bivalves: the split bulb
And philandering sigh of ocean.
Millions of them ripped and shucked and scattered.
We had driven to that coast
Through flowers and limestone
And there we were, toasting friendship,
Laying down a perfect memory
In the cool of thatch and crockery.
Over the Alps, packed deep in hay and snow,
The Romans hauled their oysters south to Rome:
I saw damp panniers disgorge
The frond-lipped, brine-stung
Glut of privilege
And was angry that my trust could not repose
In the clear light, like poetry or freedom
Leaning in from sea. I ate the day
Deliberately, that its tang
Might quicken me all into verb, pure verb.
'Of The Land'
May Tasting Club - ‘Of The Land’
Wednesday 30th May.
For our May Tasting Club we decided to focus on 'the land'. I have been a member of Leaf and Root farm CSA for the past 3 years, during this time I have got to know Emmanuela and Fergal who run the farm.
We invited Emmanuela and Fergal to join us for this tasting club and to talk about their method of working the land. In preparation we called out to the farm to plan our menu.
